Dinner on board Voyager of the Seas - Royal Caribbean
Probably some people arrive to this site searching for Royal Caribbean cruises and the food in the ship, as I did before enjoying the trip.
This is why I'm going to write some lines in English too, thinking on those who do not speak Spanish. This is the first English post in the blog, let's see if it attracts more visits or it does not affect at all!
One of the big doubts before starting the cruise vacation was about dinner. Searching info in the web, through the Royal Caribbean site or in any other web, I was not able to find I what I was looking for: clear and detailed info about how the dinner is in the cruise.
Breakfast and lunch buffets were not a problem. The only doubt was the quality and variety. In both cases it was excellent. In addition to that, the time was really wide: from 7 to 11 for breakfast and lunch time from 11.30 to 17.30.
What about dinner?
This is our experience on board the Voyager of the Seas.
When you do the booking you have to select: either at 18.30 or 21.00. In any case these two options allow you to do any other activity on board. Everything is really well scheduled in order not to miss anything.
You would need at least 2 hours to enjoy dinner, including 15-20 minutes of after-dinner conversation. Tables are normally for 8-10 people and this is the only moment when your destiny plays a role in the cruise, as the company can not ensure you anything about: the tablemates.
Anyway, you can ask for a table change if, for example, there are no people speaking your language or there are no children or if there are children!
If you are not comfortable with the tablemates, it does not matter the food and service, the dinner won't be pleasant at all.
We were lucky with our mates, eight Spanish people, similar ages, except from one couple that could be our parents, but they were really friendly and provided us with the knowledge acquired in their 4 previous cruises and, of course, their life experience.
So, we were lucky with this, let's see what happens with the food and service!
You have one waiter and his assistant for every 2-3 tables. Our waiter was Indian and the assistant was Philippine. They didn't speak Spanish at all (the official language on board was English, so nothing to say about), but after seven days, I'm pretty sure they could understand perfectly what we wanted at any time. Their effort to understand and to explain us the things was excellent.
What about food?
Every evening we had a different menu. The menu had 6-8 starters, 4-5 main dishes, 2-3 fixed dishes and 5-6 desserts. From this menu you can choose what you want without limits.
Normally the starters were:
- two soups, normally one was cold soup, like melon soup.
- two salads, Caesar salad, caprese,...
- one seafood dish, like shrimp cocktail, scallop salad...
- and some other starters like ham with melon, risotto, pasta, roasted vegetables...
As main dish you could select between: one meat, one fish, one vegetarian, one pasta or Indian food.
What I have called fixed were some dishes you can select if you don't like the main ones: salmon, chicken breast and beef sirloin.
Regarding the desserts, the variety was huge: fruit cakes, cheese cakes, chocolate, ice cream, pies, etc...
Besides the wide selection of dishes and as the most experienced mate at the table said: if you don’t like it, order another one because the Captain invites today!
The quality, presentation and service are the same you can find in a 40-50 Euro per person restaurant.
Hope this review helps you, and please do not hesitate to comment anything and I’ll try to reply you asap.
